What are signs that you and your spouse are drifting apart?

On Behalf of | Jun 6, 2022 | Divorce

One reason that couples get divorced is simply that they’ve drifted apart over the years. They may not have run into serious financial or fidelity issues. They just don’t feel as close as they were before, and they realize that it’s time to move on from the relationship.

You may want to know if this is happening in your own relationship so that you can sense if a divorce is coming. What are some signs that this is occurring?

You make up excuses not to spend time together

If you find yourself looking for ways to spend time with other people instead of your spouse, or if they always have excuses not to spend time with you, it could be that they don’t value that time anymore. A lack of attention, in general, is a potential red flag.

You don’t feel like you have anything to talk about

It is true that simply talking about the daily grind can become boring and tedious over time. But if you feel like you have absolutely nothing to talk about with your spouse, it may be that your connection is starting to fade.

You’re much older than when you got married

One issue that sometimes happens is that couples get married young and then drift apart as they grow up, develop and turn into essentially different people. If you got married at 18 or 19 years of age, for example, you could be tremendously different by the time you’re 26 or 27 years old. You may feel like you’re growing apart as you both grow in different directions.

There are many different reasons for divorce, and you can see that some of them are not so dramatic. If this happens to you, be sure you know about all of your legal options to end your marriage.
